Management Aspects on Condition Based Maintenance: The New Opportunity for Maritime Industry

When performing condition monitoring tasks, don’t just rely on expensive condition monitoring tools. You would be surprised at the unusual and simple tools that can be used. 

Infrared thermography is the science of seeing heat. Thermal imagers have the ability to produce a visual representation of thermal patterns as heating systems’ components are identified and recorded. Maintenance strategies are then planned and carried out before system breakdowns occur.

The question I posed is: Are the harmonics real? In other words, although the mass is still only bouncing up and down 30 times per second, is there actually real vibration occurring at 60, 90 and 120 Hz, etc.? OR are these just artifacts of the FFT?

In a recent article I talked about linear and nonlinear systems and how the output of these systems contain frequencies, such as harmonics and sidebands, that are not in the inputs.
